Xactimate Training FAQ

What do I need to bring to class?

Students are expected to provide their own laptop computers meeting the specificied system requirements listed below. VERY IMPORTANT: Students should make every reasonable effort to obtain and install the demo version of Xactimate 25 before coming to class.

How do I get an Xactimate demo version before class?

You can download your Xactimate 27 demo here. Be sure your laptop meets the specified system requirements listed below before you begin your download.

What if I am unable to install the demo before class?

If you are unable to successfully install the demo, your instructor will provide you with a demo and will guide you through its installation the first morning of class. Please come 30 minutes early to class so as not to inconvenience other students.

My computer skills aren't the best, should I take this course?

That depends. Knowing how to type and manipulate a mouse are essential. If your skills haven't surpassed the hunt and peck typing method, or if you are unable to handle a drag and drop maneuver with the mouse, you should strongly consider taking a basic computing class. Xactimate is a semi-advanced program - brushing up on your computer skills before taking the class is a great way to maximize your learning experience!

Xactimate Software FAQ

What is Xactimate and why should I learn it?
Xactimate is a property estimating program designed for claims adjusters, contractors, and insurance carriers. Adjusters are able to key in the type and quantity of material damaged for a particular claim, and using a built-in price list (one for every county in the United States) Xactimate is able to generate a cost-estimate for returning that property to its pre-damaged condition. It is a well-conceived, highly developed, and powerful program that cuts estimating time dramatically. More and more insurance carriers are mandating its use for their adjusters.

Is it difficult to learn Xactimate?
Xactimate is not your typical software. Built to handle the naturally complex process of an insurance claim, it comes loaded with features. Many novice independent adjusters who attempt the "learn as you go" method while in the field never complete their assignment because the program is not immediately intuitive. The best course of action is to adapt to the initial learning curve through formal instruction. Taking a Basic Xactimate course can save immense amounts of time and frustration in the field and can literally pay for itself within a single day.

Which version of Xactimate should I use?
While Xactimate 2002, 24 and 25 are still in use, there is no reason not to use Xactimate 27. It has been thoughtfully updated with new time saving features that will be sure to please even the most critical of estimate preparers. Its cutting edge - why shouldn't you be?

How do I purchase Xactimate and how much does it cost?
Xactimate can be ordered here (http://www.xactware.com/product/xm8_order.html) Because Xactimate is purchased as a subscription, the cost will depend upon how many months you sign up for. Budget around $100 per month for this program - however, you may have the good fortune to work for a company, even as an independent, that pays for the Xactimate licenses for its adjusters. If you don't know who you will be working for, download the Xactimate demo, and wait to purchase the program until you get your first claims assignment. There is no reason to pay a subscription fee for time when the program isn't helping you to make money.

What are the system requirements for running Xactimate 27 on my computer?

Monitor Resolution = 1024X768 or higher
